The Putnam County Community Foundation's annual Share the Dream program is under way.

Six endowments have notified the Community Foundation that they intend to compete this year: Asbury Endowment for the Arts, Robert H. Farber Endowment for Education, Greencastle High School Alumni Scholarship, Paul and Joanne Kissinger Endowment for the Summer Classical Concert Series, the Putnam County Fairgrounds Endowment, and the Putnam County Museum Endowment.

After obtaining the most online contributions and the most new donors, Greencastle High School Alumni Scholarship won the 2010 Share the Dream Contest for the seventh consecutive year. The Sherman and Maria Endowment raised the most money last year.

"The Greencastle Alumni Association is strategic and hardworking," Community Foundation Executive Director Elaine Peck said. "They have earned every bit of their success and have really benefited their school."

Nearly 70 students have received scholarships from the Greencastle High School Alumni Scholarship endowment. In 2011, GHS alumni awarded nine scholarships of $1,000 each. As of March 31, the scholarship had received $200,000 in contributions and had an endowment fund balance of $255,000.

Share the Dream began May 1 and lasts until Aug. 31. The program winners will be announced in September.

The Community Foundation is offering three awards to Share the Dream winners this year: $1,000 for the endowment that raises the most money during the Share the Dream Program; $500 for the endowment receiving the most contributions via the Community Foundation's website at www.pcfoundation.org; and $500 for the endowment that has the most first-time donors.

The Putnam County Community Foundation is a non-profit public charity established in 1985 to serve donors, award grants and provide leadership, enriching the quality of life and strengthening community in Putnam County. The Community Foundation administers more than 220 funds and endowments for donors supporting a variety of charities.
