Mr. J. Edward Myers, 90, of Avon, formerly of Greencastle, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Avon Healthcare.

Born November 13, 1920 in Huntington County, he was the son of Irvin R. & Almeda (Ziegler) Myers. He was a 1938 graduate of South Whitley High School and a 1942 Manchester College graduate. He married Hazel L. (Allen) Myers in Salt Lake City on Nov. 14, 1945 and she preceded him in death on March 29, 2003.

Edward had retired as a Lt. Col. from the United States Air Force having served in World War II. He had worked as an Industrial Engineer with the I.B.M Corporation in Greencastle for 19 years, retiring in June of 1984.

A member of the Plainfield Christian Church and a former member of the First Baptist Church, Greencastle, he had served on the Executive Boards of the Putnam County Council on Aging, Putnam County Food Pantry and Retired Senior Volunteer Programs.

Survivors include his son, David E. (Carol) Myers of North Augusta, S.C.; a daughter, Anne L. Myers of Avon; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Dave) Thomson of Australia and Charles (Melissa) Myers of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Frederick Myers of South Whitley; great-grandson, Thomas Edward Myers; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home with Rev. Nathan Brooks officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in the South Whitley Cemetery with military honors.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
