Greencastle's Alec Davis shot a 73 to lead GHS past South Putnam Tuesday.

The Greencastle boys' golf team defeated South Putnam 305-399 Tuesday as the two squads ready for the sectional tournament Monday.

Alec Davis led four GHS golfers with scores in the 70s on the round. Davis shot a 73, followed by Brad Haussin's 75, Jim Wheeler's 76 and Luke Brotherton's 79. Raymond Stinson shot an 81, with Tanner Dean adding an 82, Derik Thomas an 89 and Tyler Hopkins a 93.

Greencastle head coach Steve Paquin said his team posted some good scored before the Monday sectional, but they still have the chance to shave a few strokes from their scores.

"Our top five golfers played well, but can score better with the elimination of a few poor club selections and making putts," Paquin said.

For South Putnam, Alex Eickhoff led the way with a 96, while Dillon Gilbert shot a 98. Dean Varvel carded a 102 and Alex Kelly and Derick Chestnut both had rounds of 103.

Tanner Robinson shot a 106, Justin Berry a 110 and Sam Gould a 122 to round out the Eagles golfers.

Greencastle and South Putnam will compete at the Martinsville Sectional Monday at 9:30 a.m.
