Alice Mildred Cooksey

Alice Mildred Cooksey, 97, Cloverdale, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the Mill Pond Health Campus in Greencastle.

Her life's journey began on Jan. 5, 1914 in Owen County. She was the last child of nine children of John and Norma (Drake) Sheese.

She married Rolla B. Cooksey on June 22, 1933. Rolla and Mildred left Owen County, moving to Martinsville, then to Putnam County where she lived until her passing.

To this marriage they had four children, Carolyn (Arthur) Scott of Cloverdale, LeRoy (Glennis) Cooksey of Mooresville, Arlene (Sonny) Ooley of Spencer and Rhonda (Hank) Stinson of Fillmore.

She was a member of the Amity Baptist Church and Fidelity Bible Class for over 50 years.

She was a homemaker. She had many varied interests being cooking, gardening and reading.

Mildred is survived by her four children, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren and 11 step great-great-grandchildren. Mildred loved and was dearly loved by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband on July 24, 1971; her parents; her sisters, Myrtle Lutz, Edna Williams, Olna Welty, Pauline Sims; her brothers, Emory, Ray Herschel, and Paul Sheese; and a brother in infancy.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, with Rev. Tim Tesmer officiating and assisted by Rev. Sonny Ooley and Rev. Kevin Ooley. Interment will be in the Cloverdale Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
