CLOVERDALE -- Cancer patients suffering from hair loss due to their treatments have a new resource in Putnam County.

Lynda Brackin of Inspirations Salon recently became the local representative for the American Cancer Society Wig Bank. Brackin said she felt this was a way to make a positive contribution in a field she understands.

"It's a way to give back to the community but still stay within my specialty," Brackin said. Besides her salon work, Brackin formerly worked on costume wigs for Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre.

"Just like anybody turning 50 years old, I want to give back," she said.

To get involved with this free service, patients need only to fill out a simple, four-question form and get fitted for a wig or turban. Brackin is available by appointment at 795-5551.

She said the turnaround time from the Cancer Society is generally pretty quick.

"Then we fit them and send them on their way," Brackin said.

Afterward, Brackin is also available to help with washing or other care concerns.

Inspirations is located at 610 South Main St., Clovedale.
