Fair Parade to feature Jack Berry family as marshals

It is time again to be thinking about the Putnam County Fair Parade.

This year, the parade will take place Friday evening, July 22. The starting time is 6:30 p.m., with plans to arrive at the courthouse square by 7 p.m.

Those who are planning to have a float for judging must have it ready at the Greencastle High School parking lot by 4:30 p.m. The streets will be closed at 5 p.m., so all other entries should be checking in by that time as well.

"We are looking for quite a few more entries than last year," Parade Committee Chairman Dorothy Edwards said.

This year's parade marshals will be the Jack Berry family. Berry was awarded Farmer of the Year at the 2011 Ag Day Breakfast. Berry has been a farmer in Putnam County all his life.

"He is a great supporter of the community and fair," Edwards said. "We are proud to have him as our marshal this year.

"We are also so happy to have the Arnold family with their beautiful haflingers and carriage to carry the grand marshal again this year," she added.

Because of the ongoing construction work on Percy Julian Drive, all parade units must enter at the Greencastle Middle School, and then find their way to the north parking lot. There will be people present with numbers to direct you where to go.

Anyone who would like to enter the parade may talk to anyone on the Fair Parade Committee or may call Dorothy Edwards at 653-3885.

The Fair Parade Committee has been planning the event since last October, and would like to thank Sherwood Christian Church, First National Bank and Indiana Emergency Medical Training for all their help.

"We would also like to thank all of the good elves who help clean up the streets after the parade," Edwards added.

The 2011 Putnam County Fair is scheduled for July 22-30.

  • What is the Fair parade theme this year? Can't seem to get ahold of anyone.

  • Glad to see Jack and his family as parade marshall. Jack, miss you on the school board.

    You did an excellent job!
