Walking Wednesday

Tuesday, July 5, 2011

Although the non-competitive Walking Wednesday walk/run program is poised for week six of a 10-week schedule, it isn't too late for people to join in and participate. In fact, new walkers are joining the free program each week. The starting point this week (July 6) will be the West Walnut Street parking lot of the DePauw Nature Park, beginning at 5 p.m. Sponsored by the Putnam County Health Coalition, its objective is to highlight safe walking/running routes in the community. The program has seen countywide participation and has been popular with a range of generations, as illustrated by two-year-old twins, Addalyn and Aiden Brinkman, being pushed by mom Emily Brinkman and grandmother Carmen Cash of Fillmore. Joanne Allee of Cloverdale joins the group at last week's walk.

  • Last Wednesday there were several walkers and that is great. However on the down side there were some walkers that brought their dogs along and failed to clean up the mess when the dog did it's business. My child stepped into a pile left by a walker who only thinks of themself, and PS I really don't want your dog coming to me while I walk.
