Sheriff's Department

* July 28, 5:47 a.m.: James M. Lawrence, 27, Bainbridge, was crossing U.S. 40 from CR 200 West in a 1998 Oldsmobile Bravada as Adam D. Doll, 25, Reelsville, was approaching the intersection from the west in a 2007 Pontiac Grand Am.

Lawrence crossed the westbound lanes and median, failing to yield and entering the eastbound lanes in front of Doll's vehicle.

Doll tried to stop and swerve to avoid the collision, but could not. Both vehicle sustained major damage.

Lawrence said he was blinded by a motorcycle light.

Damage $10,001-$25,000.

* July 29, 12:30 a.m.: Jay A. Hansen, 33, Cloverdale, was backing from a parking spot at the Cloverdale McDonald's in a 2008 Dodge pickup when he ran over the curb and hit the McDonald's sign.

Damage $2,501-$5,000.

City Fire

Aug. 2, 11:46 p.m.: Smoke scare at 1218 North U.S. 231. Nothing was found. Cleared 12:07 a.m.

City Police

Two teenagers were arrested on shoplifting charges Tuesday afternoon at the Greencastle Walmart store on Indianapolis Road.

A 17-year-old Coatesville male and a 16-year-old Trafalgar male were apprehended after allegedly leaving the store without paying for merchandise they had concealed in their clothing.

The Coatesville teen reportedly took a knife and an air pistol with a total value of $80.19.

The Trafalgar youth reportedly took a yellow necktie, valued at $10.70, according to Sgt. Chris Jones' report.

Meanwhile, a Greencastle man suffered minor injuries in a two-car accident at Vine and Franklin streets Tuesday evening.

Officer Darrel Bunten reported that Vernon Hendrickson, 55, sustained neck pain and a minor leg injury in the 6:05 p.m. accident. He was taken by private vehicle to Putnam County Hospital for examination and treatment.

Hendrickson was southbound on Vine Street, driving a 1997 Buick when a 2011 Nissan, driven by Hiromu Kogure, 55, Greencastle, pulled into his path from Franklin Street.

Kogure, who was driving a car leased by Heartland Automotive, had stopped eastbound on Franklin Street and proceeded into the intersection without seeing the other car, he told Officer Bunten through a translator.

Total damage in the accident was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.
