At least it's near a garage...

Greencastle Police Department, Greencastle Fire Department and Operation Life responded to an accident at the intersection of West Liberty and North Jackson Street Friday afternoon. A black 1998 Mazda 626 driven by Josh Lady of Greencastle was stopped in the northbound lane, turning west when a white 1997 Plymouth Breeze, diven by Penny White of Hillsboro, traveling south collided with the Mazda, Officer Ed Wilson (left) said. Occupants of the Mazda refused medical treatment, while one occupant of the Plymouth was transported by Operation Life to Putnam County Hospital.

  • We happen to be going into the car parts store and spoke to the occupants of what I assume was the white car. They were very upset, shaken. First of all why were they left standing there to wait on a ride? They claimed to be ok but why didn't an officer just stay with them until their ride arrived?

And "At least it's near a garage"? Maybe it's just me, but that sounds a little insensitive. Joking about an accident that sent one person to the hospital? I really think you could have come up with a better headline. I hope everyone involved is doing ok!

  • putnammom, I was assisted at an accident I was involved in a few years ago by the city police, I was injured and they took great care of me. I am sure they did the same thing for these people just like they do for everybody else they deal with. The title of the article fits and no an accident isn't funny and I am sure Mr. Kelly meant no harm by it. You need to quit being so uptight and quit talking bad about the people who protect you. You may need them in the future for something. And no I am not a cop.

  • I'm not uptight, and where did I speak badly of ANYONE. I too have been assisted by the city police. They did a fine job. I simply asked why no officer stayed with an older woman and a little girl that had just been in an accident, and were sobbing in a parking lot waiting on a ride. We felt very bad for them. I'm not saying they are bad police officers, just that they should have stayed with them until they had a ride.

  • putnammom, you said "We felt very bad for them...",

so YOU sat with them until their ride arrived?

  • As a matter of fact exhoosier2 my husband asked them if they needed a ride anywhere, if they were ok and did they need help. She informed us that she was just in an accident, they were fine, just shaken and their ride was a few minutes away. We talked to them for a couple minutes longer, went into the parts store and they were gone when we came back out of the parts store. I would have been happy to sit with them until their ride arrived or given them a ride somewhere more comfortable to wait. Instead of in the 95 degree heat in a parking lot. And I'm not even an official, trained to protect citizens. You can say what you want, but you will never make me believe that it is okay for the police to not sit with them while they waited.
