City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

-- At 7:43 p.m. Monday, Josef Minartz, 26, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Eric Vaughan on three charges and was booked into the Putnam County Jail.

Minartz was arrested for domestic battery resulting in bodily injury in the presence of a child. He also faces charges of possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

-- At 4:19 p.m. Sunday, James T. Coy, 33, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Jeff Modlin on a theft charge and was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

City Police said Coy allegedly took $27.90 in merchandise from the Greencastle Walmart store. He reportedly put shaving cream, a baby outfit and Pampers in a Walmart bag and left without paying.

The suspect told police someone else handed him the bag, and he assumed the items had been paid for.

In another incident, Derick McGaughey, 24, Greencastle, is facing a charge of failure to stop after a property-damage accident.

The mishap occurred at 12:09 a.m. Sunday, Officer Matt Huffman said, when McGaughey reportedly hit a utility pole at Wood and Tennessee streets and left the scene.

A one-vehicle accident on the Walmart store parking lot at 4:30 p.m. Saturday resulted in damage to a yellow pole protecting a fire hydrant, Officer Darrel Bunten said.

Annie Vanderlaan, 56, Coatesville, struck the pole with her 2000 Chevrolet 1500, resulting in damage of $1,000-$2,500.

A three-vehicle accident was reported at 4:47 p.m. Aug. 4 on Jackson Street, just north of the railroad tracks on the city's North Side.

A 2011 Kia Sportage, driven by Matthew Hawthorne, 21, Greencastle, was northbound and struck the rear of a 2005 Dodge Ram, driven by Ryan Overshiner, 34, Greencastle, Officer Ed Wilson reported.

Impact pushed the Overshiner vehicle into the path of a southbound 2003 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by Nicole Schmidli, 32, Greencastle.

Damage to the 2011 Kia was estimated at $5,000-$10,000. Damage to the Overshiner vehicle was listed at $2,500-$5,000, while damage to the Schmidli vehicle was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

Sheriff's Department

* Aug. 6, 1:03 a.m.: Robert J. Clegham, 63, Rosedale, was westbound on I-70 around the 41-mile marker in a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country when a tire came off an eastbound vehicle and hit the front of his van.

Charles Moody Jr., 58, Richmond, was eastbound on I-70 when he noticed the 1996 Honda Accord he was towing had something wrong. He stopped and found the driver's side rear wheel missing.

Damage $5,001-$10,000.

* Aug. 7, 12:24 a.m.: Nicole R. Barnes, 23, Cloverdale, was exiting the front entrance of the Cloverdale Econo Lodge in a 2005 Chrysler 300. As she rounded the southeast corner of the motel, she collided head on with the 2007 Dodge Charger driven by Kenneth C. Hirt, 51, Cloverdale.

Hirt said he was probably in Barnes' lane as he rounded the hidden corner of the motel.

Damage $1,001-$2,500.

Aug. 6, 2:29 p.m.: Smoke investigation at 60 S. CR 100 East. Residents were burning off a ditch. Cleared 2:50 p.m.

Aug. 6, 8:44 p.m.: Assisted Operation Life at 1109 Avenue B. Cleared 9:09 p.m.

Aug. 7, 11:44 a.m.: Assisted Operation Life at 11:44 Avenue B. Cleared 11:51 a.m.

Aug. 8, 6:23 p.m.: Assisted police at Refuse Handling, 525 W. Columbia St. Cleared 7:14 p.m.

Aug. 9, 4:04 a.m.: Assisted Operation Life at 401 N. College Ave. Cleared 4:27 a.m.
