Putnam 4-Her's excel at Indiana State Fair

Monday, August 15, 2011

Kudos to the efforts of all the Putnam County 4-Hers participating in the Indiana State Fair (ISF). While the opportunity to learn while doing in the project is of foremost importance, the recognition of achievement is certainly an added bonus to being in the 4-H program.

Putnam County 4-Hers did well at this year's Indiana State Fair. For a complete run down of results and more information, go to our Extension website at www.extension/purdue.edu/putnam and click on the link in the top left under spotlight on Putnam County.

In the coming weeks as all results are entered, a story with a complete summary of ISF results will be provided.

Putnam County is off to a great start in 2011 with already 26 merit awards compared to 30 total for last year. Congratulations to Putnam County's Shooting Sports and Aerospace ISF project entries where all of the entries from the county in these projects received special merit awards. So far, Putnam County 4-Hers were the recipients of 66 blue ribbons.

For every project area, a sweepstakes winner is selected as the top overall project across all grade levels and at this point we are not aware of any sweepstakes winners in 2011. However, both Mackenzie Cash and Brittany Birt were selected in the top 15 of the state group during the state fashion revue in the categories of suit or coat and formal wear, respectively.

All 4-Hers are again to be reminded that the due date for "My Record of Achievement" is Sept. 9 to be assured consideration for 2011 awards to be awarded at the Nov. 5, 4-H Member Awards and Volunteer Recognition Night. Completion of "My Record of Achievement" is also required for those will be applying 4-H scholarships from both the state and county level. Please call if you have questions or ask your 4-H leader who will be willing to help. The form is on the Purdue Extension-Putnam County website.

Also all interested in the Putnam County 4-H program are encouraged to join the Putnam County 4-H Facebook group which has nearly 200 members.
