Bobby E. Lawson, 89, of Fillmore, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011 at the Veterans Home in West Lafayette.

Born June 2, 1922 in Marion Township of Fillmore, he was the son of Harry and Ethel (Dicks) Lawson and attended Fillmore schools.

Bobby's greatest love was being a soldier, having been a United States Army veteran serving in World War II at Normandy and at D-Day on Omaha Beach.

Upon his return home he had farmed in the Fillmore area, worked at the Indus Corp. in Indianapolis, and served as the custodian for the Greencastle National Guard.

Survivors include his son, Robert (Anna) Lawson; daughter-in-law, Brenda Lawson; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine (Horner) Lawson; a daughter, Nancy Rusk; and two grandchildren, Nathan and Julie Rusk.

Graveside services with military rites will be conducted at the Fillmore Cemetery on Wednesday, Aug. 24, with interment to follow.

Friends may call at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Memorial contributions may be made for the War Memorial installation at the Fillmore Elementary at South Putnam School Corporation.
