City Police

One arrest was reported Tuesday night by Greencastle City Police.

Joshua Dean Akins, 21, Greencastle, was arrested at 9:50 p.m. at Robe-Ann Park on charges of possession of marijuana (less than 30 grams), contributing to the delinquency of a minor and probation violation.

Arrested by Capt. Charles Inman and Reserve Officer David Clodfelter, Akins was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Two theft cases in the city's South End were investigated Tuesday by GPD officers.

-- At 4:40 p.m. Officer Jeff Modlin was called to 309 Ohio St. to investigate a theft from a 1990 BMW owned by Marcus McCombs.

The unlocked car was entered sometime late Monday or early Tuesday. Stolen in the incident were a Pioneer CD player, a number of CDs and the car's vehicle registration.

Total loss was listed at $250-$300, Officer Modlin reported.

-- At 7 a.m. Tuesday, Sgt. Terry Eastham was called to 407 Sycamore St., where a 2009 Toyota Scion, owned by Tim Gins, was entered and an XM satellite radio taken. Nothing else in the car was disturbed, police said.

A pickup truck at the same location was also entered but nothing was reported missing. The radio was valued at an estimated $100.

Jeanette Burk, 47, Poland: Theft, Aug. 30, 12:05 a.m.

Frances Margaret Cancilla, 44, Roachdale: Operating while intoxicated, public intoxication, Aug. 31, 5:15 a.m.

Austin Kirk, 31, no city listed: Nonsupport of a dependent, Aug. 30, 11 a.m.

Sheriff's Department

* Aug. 30, 10:52 a.m.: Michael B. Stokes, 32, Roachdale, was dropping of mail at 4222 W. CR 900 North in a 2008 Suzuki SXR.

When accelerating from the mailbox eastbound, the vehicle "darted to the left and into a ditch." He then hit a tree head-on.

Stokes said he tried to keep the vehicle out of the ditch, but the brakes were not functioning properly.

Damage $2,501-$5,000.
