9/11 remembrance ceremony planned for Robe-Ann Park
This year on the 10th anniversary of Sept.11th, a special remembrance ceremony will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday around the Bob Flanigan Bandshell at Greencastle's Robe-Ann Park.
Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.
The purpose of the event is to gather together as a community and reflect on this unforgettable day in our nation's history, local organizers stress.
"During our time together, we will recognize the efforts of those individuals who consistently give of themselves providing for the physical and spiritual support of those in need, as well as to pay our respects to those who lost their lives and to their families," Greencastle Mayor Sue Murray said.
The event, which will last approximately 45 minutes, will include performances by various choirs, reflections from first-responders, and a brief moment of silence.
District 44 State Rep. Jim Baird (R-Greencastle) and Mayor Murray are scheduled to address the gathering, while Putnam County Playhouse representatives Vickie Parker, Caroline Good and Jack Randall Earles will give dramatic readings involving the events of that fateful day.
Spectators are reminded the event will be grass seating, so feel free to bring your own chair if you wish.
In the event of rain, the program will be moved to Kresge Auditorium in the DePauw University Performing Arts Center.
For more information, persons may call Greencastle City Hall at 848--1515.
Meanwhile, with the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks approaching, the Banner Graphic is interested in collecting the remembrances of Putnam County residents.
Just like the Kennedy Assassination and Pearl Harbor before it, 9/11 is a day that will live in infamy for Americans of this generation.
We want to know where you were and what you were thinking and doing when you heard about the horrific events unfolding that day.
Also, did the events of 9/11 change your life? If so, how?
