On Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, our son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandchild, cousin and friend, Kevin Eugene Phelps of Bloomington, passed away unexpectedly at 46.

Kevin was born in Indianapolis on Feb. 25, 1965 to Hershel Phelps and Shirley (Williams) Brock.

He worked as a medical billing clerk at Morgan County Hospital.

His loving grip on the hearts of everyone who was blessed to have known him will never lessen. He taught us through his unflagging, unconditionally loving, life. He worked tirelessly and passionately for AIDS awareness and in the AIDS community.

No one ever born, loved and lived life with the child-like joy and innocence, that Kevin did on a daily basis. He was the Pied Piper of the world; everyone who met him was touched by his acceptance, his brilliant and hysterical sense of humor, and openness. His generosity of heart, spirit, and soul touched people throughout his life. There are truly no words to describe how his family and friends are, and will be, affected by his passing. His legacy of love, life and laughter will live with all of us, forever; we shall never let him be forgotten.

Kevin is survived by many, many loved ones; beloved mother, Shirley Brock, and beloved bonus-father, Glenn Brock; siblings, Debbie and Jerry Brinkman, Donna and Ray Wells, Patty Phelps, and Randy Christie, Linda Norris, Kenny Phelps and Laurie Rubino, Diane and Jason Wade, GD and Carrie Brock; nieces and nephews; Amber Payne, Jodi Brinkman, Steven Wells and Vanessa Wells, Chad and Natalie Wells, Donnie Meadows, Nicki and Patrick Owens, Karla Deweese and Steven Tauriello, Matt, Jenny and Mike Cattel. Kevin cherished so very many friends, at the top of that list are his Spiritual Wife, Melanie Howard, his longtime partner, Tony Massey, and best friends, Jeri and Marq. He also leaves behind his beloved five furry children.
