Semi-pro football team to play at Cloverdale High School

CLOVERDALE -- As the school year gets into full swing, things are looking good for the Cloverdale Community School Corporation.

Dianna Whitlock, the Cloverdale Elementary assistant principal, updated the board Monday night on the progress of the CCSC High Ability Program.

Cloverdale Elementary and Middle schools are currently in the third year of the five-year partnership with Ball State University.

The program provides a service plan to group students together who are at the same learning level. Whitlock provided a detailed outline of the program, which explained how children are grouped together as well as several activities within the program.

"We are really trying to serve all kids," Whitlock said. "Our teachers are really good at giving our kids greater enrichment."

The board then heard from Cloverdale High School Principal Sonny Stoltz, who reported that in effort to keep the community informed the high school would soon be installing a new sign. Plans are in place to add a new, two-line marquee to the school.

"It has been an idea of ours for a couple years," Stoltz said. "It will show the community what we have to offer."

The sign will mimic the current sign in front of the high school's auditorium. In an effort to keep vandalism down, the sign will feature a built-in camera.

In another effort to open the schools up to the community, Stoltz informed the board that a semi-pro football team will soon be playing in Cloverdale.

The team, the West Central Wildcats, is from Terre Haute. The team includes Cloverdale alumni. They will be playing this Saturday, Sept. 17 on the high school field at 7 p.m.

"We are trying to promote school and community, not only to our kids, but alumni," Stoltz said.

CCSC Superintendent Dr. Carrie Milner gave an update on the progress of the Musco Lights, which will be finished by Friday, Sept. 16.

"We're please with their progress," Milner said.

Milner also added there is interest from Anderson Preparatory on buying the old football lights. However, nothing has been decided as of yet.
