Cadets edge past Cougars in volleyball

CLAYTON -- The North Putnam volleyball team lost a close contest against Cascade Thursday in three games. The Cougars lost 25-22, 25-17 and 25-22.

Head coach Jill Scheiber said her team came out with a lot of intensity in the first game, but couldn't hold onto the lead although they played well and hustled and scrapped. And then after a lull in the second game, she said the Cougars found their groove, but once again couldn't sustain their lead.

"This was a match we should have won," Schreiber said. "We are still learning and proving to ourselves we are good enough. We need to learn how to win. We played and looked good at times. We need to keep up our intensity and keep the lead...finish.

"Kallie Brattain played well for us tonight," she continued. "I had two starters missing from the lineup tonight due to injury. Kensy Asbell came in and was our setter. (She) did well, but it took her away from our front row. Bethany Wiatt came in and played well all the way around. Monday we should be healthy and all players back. (I'm) proud of the girls, we just need to learn to finish what we start."

Brattain and Morgan Robinson had three kills, while Wiatt recorded three aces and 13 points. LeeAnn Davis had 10 digs on the night for North Putnam.
