CLOVERDALE -- During the 82nd Indiana FFA State Convention this summer, Cameron Mann and Katie Arnold from the Cloverdale FFA chapter won their state leadership contest, allowing them to advance in competition at the National FFA Convention in October.

The 84th annual National FFA Convention is slated for Oct. 19-22 at Indianapolis. More than 55,000 FFA delegates are due to attend.

Mann competed in Extemporaneous Public Speaking. She drew an agricultural-related topic and had 30 minutes to write and prepare a four to six-minute speech and then present it to a group of judges.

After winning the state contest, she is currently preparing for the national contest where she will have an opportunity to compete against FFA members from across the nation.

Arnold will be competing in the National FFA Science Fair. She also won her state contest in June. Her science fair project is in the zoology division, where she studied how different types of music affect fish activity.

The Cloverdale FFA chapter was well represented at the State FFA Convention at Purdue University. In addition to the two state winners, Arnold also competed in Multimedia Scrapbook and Mann competed in Prepared Public Speaking. Sam Jordan and Alex Bartlett competed in Agricultural Mechanics Demonstration.

Mann also was elected the District VII president at the event.

The Hoosier Degree recipients were Arnold, Mann and Sam McHugh. Kyleigh Mitchell received sixth place in the Living to Serve Community Initiative grant sponsored by Monsanto, and won $500 for the chapter.

Cloverdale FFA was also among the chapters receiving the Superior Chapter Award at the state convention.
