Cloverdale kicks off Indiana 'College GO! Week' Monday

CLOVERDALE -- Students from across the state will be celebrating the official launch of Learn More Indiana's "College GO! Week" campaign.

The campaign's main goal is to make students plan for the future. The campaign will begin on Monday, Sept. 26.

Cloverdale High School will be hosting a regional kickoff event on Monday, Sept. 26 at 10:25 a.m. To begin the week students will hear guest speaker Indiana State Rep. Jim Baird (R-Greencastle) address the importance of education.

The semester-long campaign will help students ages K-12 as well as college students and adults plan for college and career success. Many of the Indiana colleges will be waiving application fees during the week of Sept. 26-30.

Nearly two-thirds of all new jobs require at least some postsecondary education. College GO! Week is designed to help students identify the specific steps they should be completing to reach their goals.

"Indiana's average four-year graduation rate hovers around 30 percent -- far too low for Indiana to compete in a global economy," explained Indiana Commissioner for Higher Education Teresa Lubbers.

"Mapping out all of the courses needed for a college degree helps students stay on track, increases their chance of graduating on time and minimizes their college debt," Lubbers said.

Throughout the program will focus on college completion and graduating on time. Students will be able to participate in trivia related to furthering their education and win prizes. The students will be also discussing with their teachers their future plans for themselves.

Several different colleges will also be visiting this week such as, Indiana State University, Indiana Tech, Ivy Tech and Indiana University.
