ROACHDALE -- The North Putnam volleyball team defeated South Vermillion in four sets, winning 25-9, 26-24, 24-26 and 25-10.

Kallie Brattain led the Cougars with 22 points and seven aces. Samantha Lucas led the team in kills with 10, with Morgan Robinson adding seven, Brattain with six and Kensy Asbell with three. Robinson also had eight blocks, with Lucas adding three.

LeeAnne Davis led the Cougars with 29 kills, with Bethany Wiatt adding 15.

"We played well at times, and not so well at other times," head coach Jill Schreiber said. "But the main thing is we came out on top. We were working on different types of hits and moving players around. Tari Straziscar came out and played well tonight, probably one of the best games I have seen her play.

"Kensy Asbell also played well tonight," she continued. "She was hitting the ball hard. Kallie Brattain came out and dominated with her serving. We need to work on coming out strong and not playing the catch up game."

Schreiber said her team seems to like getting behind and playing hard and wished they would come out strong and stay strong the entire match.

"It was a good win, and the girls needed and deserve the win," Schreiber said.

CLOVERALE -- The Cloverdale volleyball team lost to Southmont in three sets, falling 25-11, 25-19 and 25-23.

Rebekah Jordan led the Clovers with 10 points, with Paige Gruener adding five and Bradanne Toney three. Lindsay Robson had two points and Bristy Skiles and Taylor Jones with one point each. Toney also led the team with 15 kills, while Mariah Oetken and Jones adding four. Gruener and Adri Patterson had one kill each.

Gruener and Oetken had six digs each, with Toney adding five, Jordan and Robson four and Skiles two. Jones and Patterson added one dig each. Jones and Toney had one block each.

"We got off to a very slow start tonight. Southmont was hitting the ball well and we were making errors and giving up freeballs. We were more competitive in sets 2 and 3, we just didn't get it done," head coach Kathy Moore said.

The junior varsity team defeated the Mounties to go 17-4 on the season.
