Postal Service employee retirements key to solution

Wednesday, October 19, 2011

To the Editor:

I'm sure in the future there will be local news about post office closings and there is a lot of misinformation out there.

Let Congress repair what it has messed up and get older employees to retire. Almost 50 percent of postal employees are over 50 years of age, with many thousands ready to retire. Just give us a little help to go.

The Postal Service has been five to six months late in getting retirement benefits figured correctly and, of course, you get less than what you should. Many are afraid to retire until they have a nest egg.

No closings or cuts in service.
