City Police

The theft of an estimated $20,000 in tools and equipment was reported at B & E Electric, 1108 S. Locust St., Greencastle City Police said.

Owner Jerry Ensor told police the theft occurred sometime Oct. 7-14 when the door to his shop was pried open and his adjacent pole barn forcibly entered.

The incident was reported to police at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 14. Officer Darrel Bunten and Assistant Chief Brian Hopkins did the initial investigation before turning the case over to Det. Michael Collins.

Taken in the Ensor break-in were:

-- Three hammer drills.

-- Copper wire.

-- Two chainsaws.

-- A natural gas wall heater.

-- Air compressors.

-- Air nailers.

-- A weedeater.

-- An angle drill.

-- Hydraulic wire clippers.

-- Computer components.

-- Numerous hand tools and other items.

Police said entry to the shop was made by prying the molding from the doorframe, while tool marks left around the doorknob indicated how entry was made to the pole barn.

In another recent theft case, a scooter was reported stolen from the rear of an apartment building at 211 N. Locust St. sometime between 6:30-10 a.m. Saturday.

The blue 2005 Yamaha Zuma 50cc scooter, valued at $1,500, is owned by Danny Smiley, 58. He had parked the scooter behind the building, Capt. Mike Hanlon reported.

County Jail

Two people were booked into the Putnam County Jail on the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 18.

At 8:40 p.m. Fount Thomas Brock, 30, Bainbridge, was housed at the jail for motor vehicle theft.

At 10:42 p.m. Justin Ray Sims, 23, Terre Haute, was arrested for possession of marijuana.

Sheriff's Department

* On Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 7 a.m. Sandra Sinclair, 62, Fillmore, was turning in to the parking lot of McPhearson's Market on U.S. 36 in Groveland in a 2004 Chevrolet S10. She said she was looking west at eastbound traffic when she turned and did not notice William Creanean, 42, Fillmore, driving through the parking lot in a 2000 Ford Ranger.

Creanean said he was also looking at eastbound traffic and did not see Sinclair's truck entering the lot.

The vehicles collided head-on.

Damage $2,501-$5,000.

* On Thursday, Oct. 13 at 4:40 p.m. Rosado Wilson, 67, Fillmore, was southbound on County Road 725 East approaching a curve that turns into County Road 525 North in a 2004 Dodge Dakota. He said Jeffery Collins, 56, Coatesville, appeared to be in the middle of the road in the curve in a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu.

Wilson said he braked but lost control due to wet pavement and hit Collins' vehicle in the driver side front fender area.

Collins said he did not see Wilson approaching. He wasn't sure he was left of center.

Jane Collins, a passenger, was treated by PMH ambulance for leg pain.

Damage $10,001-$25,000.

* On Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 4:20 p.m. Nicholas R. Cupp, 17, Cloverdale, was northbound on State Road 243 approaching U.S. 40 in a 1994 Ford F150. Kenneth D. Corona, 57, Brazil, was eastbound on U.S. 40 in a 1994 Buick Roadmaster. Dennis L. Souders, 59, Poland, was stopped westbound on U.S. 40 waiting to turn south onto State Road 243 in a 2010 Ford Mustang.

Cupp said as he approached the intersection he hit his brakes but his tires started to slide on the wet pavement. His vehicle slid into the intersection and was hit in the left front by Corona's car.

The impact caused both vehicles to spin. They collided again before Corona's car crossed into the westbound lane and hitting Souders' car.

Cupp, Kenneth Corona and passenger Justin Corona, were all transported to Putnam County Hospital by Operation Life.

Cloverdale Township Fire personnel and one member of the Washington Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Damage $10,001-$25,000.

City Fire

* On Thursday, Oct. 13 at 11:52 a.m. the Greencastle Fire Department responded to a lift assist at 805 Crescent Dr. Cleared 12:02 p.m.

* On Friday, Oct. 14 at 9:58 a.m. fire personnel were dispatched to an alarm at 102 W. Poplar St. but were disregarded at 10:03 a.m.

* On Sunday, Oct. 16 at 10:59 a.m. GFD responded to a natural gas odor investigation at the Putnam County Fairgrounds community building. The burners on the stove were not lighting. Personnel secured the stove and the smell went away. Cleared 11:51 a.m.

At 12:28 p.m. fire crews assisted Operation Life at 215 Shadowlawn Ave. Cleared 12:50 p.m.

At 12:39 p.m. GFD was dispatched to a field fire on County Road 100 East, south of Crow's Bridge. The bearing on a combine's corn head went out, catching the field on fire. Cleared 2:27 p.m.

* On Monday, Oct. 17 at 10:38 a.m. GFD responded to a medical assist at 1014 Millpond Ln. Cleared 10:55 a.m.

At 11:34 a.m. crews responded to an elevator malfunction at 110 S. Indiana St. cleared 11:40 a.m.

At 2:10 p.m. personnel were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at Indianapolis Rd. and Greenwood Dr., cleaning up debris. Cleared 2:45 p.m.

At 2:43 p.m. crews assisted Operation Life at 1118 Avenue B. Cleared 2:59 p.m.

At 2:52 p.m. crews assisted Operation Life at 126 Martinsville St. Cleared 3:38 p.m.

At 5:45 p.m. GFD was dispatched to an alarm due to steam at 301 E. Seminary St. Cleared 5:55 p.m.

At 7:56 p.m. personnel were dispatched to Humbert Hall at 208 Olive St. but were disregarded at 8 p.m.

* On Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 9:45 a.m. GFD was dispatched to 102 W. Poplar St. but was disregarded at 9:54 a.m.

At 7:09 p.m. crews were called to assist Bainbridge on a structure fire at Morton Garage at U.S. 36 and County Road 500 North. They were disregarded en route at 7:25 p.m.

* On Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 2:11 p.m. GFD assisted Operation Life at 2238 W. County Road 300 South. Cleared 2:39 p.m.

At 4:18 p.m. personnel were dispatched to an alarm at Bloomington Street Hall at 225 Bloomington St. Nothing was found. Cleared 4:40 p.m.
