Friday, October 21, 2011

Games, food and fun are scheduled at the second annual Halloween Festival from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Putnam County Fairgrounds Community Building.

The festival will be hosted by the Putnam County Extension Homemakers Volunteer Community Service Committee.

Proceeds from the event will be divided between two programs that serve youth in the community -- Putnam County Coats for Kids and the Putnam County Fairgrounds.

Starting at noon, participants can enjoy a variety of games and activities, including a cupcake walk. Those who bring a gently used book for the book exchange can receive one in return.

The costume contest will begin at 1:30 p.m. with prizes for most original, cutest and funniest in the age groups 0-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12 years of age.

There will also be a grand prize of a $50 savings bond from First National Bank given for overall best costume.

Also there will be a separate family category in case there are any parents who want to get in on the fun.

Anyone wishing to participate in the costume contest should be registered by 1:15 p.m. the day of the event.

Each child will receive one free raffle ticket at the door for the children's raffle with additional tickets available for 25 cents each or five for $1. Drawing for the children's raffle will immediately follow the costume contest.

Tickets for the main raffle, with prizes valued at up to $100, will be sold for $1 each or six for $5 with the drawing for the main raffle beginning at 12:30 p.m. and continuing throughout the event. You must be present to win for both raffles.

All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

A lunch of hotdogs and pizza will be served starting at noon for a small charge. Those who wish to donate can give either a monetary contribution or a clean, gently used children's coat. All sizes are welcome.
