State Police also taking part in prescription Drug Take Back Day

PUTNAMVILLE -- The Indiana State Police Post at Putnamville, located at 1927 W. U.S. 40, will participate in Saturday's third annual nationwide "Prescription Drug Take Back" initiative.

Area residents can drop off unwanted or outdated prescription medications between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday at the Putnamville Post.

The drug take back program is for pills and liquids only. No needles or sharp objects will be taken.

Greencastle City Police earlier announced that its local effort is also scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the parking area outside the Greencastle High School office entrance.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is sponsoring the "Take Back" initiative seeking to prevent increased prescription drug abuse and theft. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

All state police posts are available as prescription drug drop-off sites with the exception of the Toll Road Post in northern Indiana.
