Theater at the Museum: Show and a chance to act

Monday, October 31, 2011

The Putnam County Museum and the West Indiana Theater Troupe (WITT) invite the public to an interactive theater performance on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Troupe members will perform skits that address pressing social issues in our community, inviting you to participate and change the outcome of each act. An engaging discussion will follow each skit.

The theme of the performance is "Face Facts: Hard Truths About How We Treat Each Other."

The performance will address three difficult situations: Tolerance of homosexuality, the destructiveness of gossip, and abuse in personal relationships.

The program is a part of DePauw ArtsFest and is free and open to the public.

"Led by a talented and enthusiastic communication and theater professor at DePauw University, Tim Good, the troupe gives people in our community a unique chance to gain insight and discuss issues that have plagued various social groups: teenagers, parents, elderly, etc.," Museum Director Tanis Monday said.

"Instead of complaining and feeling discouraged, we are making an effort to improve the lives of people in our community in a welcoming and fun way," she said. "Even if people join us only as spectators, this is still a great opportunity to raise awareness and develop a new perspective on old issues."
