Letter to the Editor

Non-food pantry contributions appreciated

Thursday, November 3, 2011

To the Editor:

I am writing on behalf of the Putnam County Non-Food Pantry, hosted by St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, to offer our thanks to all those who have contributed to the pantry in the past weeks and months.

The Putnam County community has been very generous in its support of the Non-Food Pantry. In addition to the recent Walmart Community Outreach grant, we have had financial help from the Putnam County Foundation and many generous individuals.

The youth of our community have kept us going with their time and energy. These groups include the Youth Philanthropic Group from the Putnam County Community Foundation, the local Girl Scouts and several groups of DePauw University students.

This past Saturday four DePauw students who are interfaith interns at the Center for Spiritual Life helped out packing and distributing bags as well as greeting the arrivals and serving refreshments. The Christian Women's Fellowship from the First Christian Church here in town and other individuals and groups have helped us as well. We want to recognize all the donations from Curves throughout this past summer.

We try to recognize individually each gift we have received, but sometimes we have not done so. We apologize for this oversight. We hope that the community will continue to support this endeavor which has provided help to more than 5,000 families since it began in March of 2009.

Thank you all for your help. We hope that you will continue to support the Putnam County Non-Food Pantry in these tough economic times.

For more information or to make a donation, contact St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 520 E. Seminary St, Greencastle, at 653-3921, email: standrewsgreencastle@gmail.com.
