Georgia Zeis Barrett

Georgia Zeis Barrett, 87, of Indianapolis, passed at the home of her daughter, Susan Perkins on Nov. 4, 2011.

Born April 16, 1924, Georgia grew up in Greencastle, the daughter of the late James and Helen Sallust Zeis.

She met her husband while he was stationed at DePauw University with the Navy V-12 program.

Georgia is the mother of six children and was married for 67 years to the love of her life, William H. Barrett, who passed away this past May.

She was active in Delta Tau Delta sorority and PTA.

She worked for L.S. Ayres at the Glendale Shopping Center in Indianapolis for many years.

She is survived by her children, Steve (Mary) of Muncie, Janice Vanek of Elmhurst, Ill., Craig (Karen) of Hebron, Ky., Nancy Dawson (Mike) of Grabill, Ind., Jim (Beth) of St. Louis, and Susan Perkins (Woodie) of Batesville.

She is also survived by her brother, Jim Zeis (Evie) of Greencastle; her brother-in-law, Joseph Barrett (Shirley) of Roy, Utah; and sister-in-law, Ilene Middleton (Preston) of Mesquite, Nev.

Georgia was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Frank Vanek, and a grandson, Sgt. Joe Vanek.

Georgia is also survived by 13 grandchildren, David Barrett, Jeff Barrett, Kevin Barrett, Anne Vanek, Georgia Barrett Holt, Laura Barrett, Justin Barrett, Kristen Barta, Stacie Barth, Kyle Barrett, Andi Barrett, Bradley Perkins and Brandon Perkins, and three great-grandchildren.

"My Mother loved each of us and always made us feel special. She was our biggest fan. She was devoted and committed to her marriage. She was selfless and the heart of our family," said youngest daughter, Susan Perkins.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

There will be no visitation. A private family service will be observed.
