DePauw Orchestra to present free concert Monday

The DePauw University Orchestra will present a Thanksgiving week concert, "Mysteries and Celebrations," on Monday, Nov. 21.

The featured work on the program will be "Mysterious Mountain" by American composer Alan Hovhaness.

The music will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium, located within DePauw's Green Center for the Performing Arts, and is presented free of admission charge.

"Thanksgiving gatherings bring families and friends together as the daylight hours shorten, and the seasons change," orchestra conductor Orcenith Smith said. "It is, perhaps, a time of mystery and celebration, as these gatherings give pause for reflection about family history and relationships. We will explore the ideas of joy, mystery, and celebration with the music of the concert."

Also on the program will be "Symphony No. 4 in F major" by English baroque composer, William Boyce; a 2001 work, "Nymphéa Reflection (Sostenuto)" by Swedish composer, Kaija Saariaho; and "Conga del Fuego Nuevo" by Mexican composer Arturo Márquez.
