Blood drive set Thursday at Ivy Tech Greencastle campus

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

The Indiana Blood Center will be at Ivy Tech Community Collegw on Thursday, Dec. 1 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

The blood drive will be in the nursing lab. Donating blood is safe, simple and takes less than an hour. Also each donor receives a mini-physical that checks for anemia, body temperature, pulse and blood pressure.

The Indiana Blood Center reminds potential donors that every two seconds, someone needs blood; every minute, patients use more than 36 units of blood products; the center provides blood to more than 60 hospitals in Indiana; and, the blood supply needs constant replenishment.

Donor requirements include:

-- Being at least 16 years of age (donors under age 17 must have a signed Indiana Center parental/guardian consent form).

-- Weighing at least 110 pounds.

-- Passing a brief mini-physical and medical history review.

-- Following normal eating patterns before donating.

-- Providing a picture I.D.

All donors have the opportunity to go to www.donorpoint.org to choose a gift.

Other upcoming Putnam County blood drives in December are scheduled for 1-5 p.m. Dec. 22 at Putnam County Hospital and 2-6:30 p.m. Dec. 27 at First Christian Church, Greencastle.
