ROACHDALE -- The North Putnam swim teams battled South Vermillion and Edgewood Saturday, with the boys finish second and the girls placing third.

The boys' meet was decided by 15 points, with the Mustangs outlasting the Cougars 124-109. South Vermillion was third with a total of 78. North Putnam had two DQs during the meet, allowing Edgewood to get the win.

"The athletes who were disqualified took it hard, but I told them not to worry about it," head coach Tony Gray said. "The DQ's were a result of being aggressive. I never fault a kid when they are aggressive.

"We learned a good lesson and the kids are ready to move forward, and will not make the same mistakes again. Everyone is getting better and times are dropping even though we are in a heavy training phase," he added.

Dane Gray paced the squad with wins in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard IM. He set a school record in the 200-yard IM race. Jared James won the 100-yard breaststroke. The relay team of Joe Lehr, Hunter Logan, James and Gray won the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay.

No individual results were provided for the girls' meet.
