Russellville Community Church hosts candlelight memorial service

The holidays are not always a bright and cheery time for those who have experienced deaths and losses in their families.

In an effort to provide a safe and quiet space to remember our loved ones who will be absent from our holiday celebrations, the Russellville Community Church will have a Christmas candlelight memorial service on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.

This is sometimes called a "Blue Christmas" service.

The service is open to the public, regardless of faith background, and all are invited to come and seek comfort from song, prayers, and fellowship. Call the church office at 435-2623 any morning between 9:30 a.m. and noon for more information.

Lifespring Church announces holiday services

Lifespring Church is inviting anyone and everyone looking for a church to worship at -- either permanently or during the holidays -- to join them for any or all of their holiday services.

Lifespring's schedule over the next three weeks is as follows:

* Sunday, Dec. 18, 10:30 a.m.: Morning worship (Christmas Dinner to follow)

* Sunday, Dec. 25, 9-10 a.m.: Christmas morning worship and communion

* Sunday, Jan. 1, 10:30 a.m.: New Year's worship celebration

Lifespring Church is located at 5038 North U.S. Highway 231, four miles north of Greencastle and two miles south of U.S. 36.

St. Andrew's plans Christmas celebrations

St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Greencastle will mark the Christmas season with several services in the coming weeks.

St. Andrew's will celebrate with its children and youth through a Christmas Pageant at its 10:15 a.m. service on Sunday, Sept. 18. The event is for all ages.

Following the service, they will "green the church" in anticipation of the birth of the Christ Child. A pitch-in follows in Hamilton Hall.

On Saturday, Dec. 24, the church begins the Christmas celebration with services at 5:30 and 11 p.m. to welcome the Christ child. Special music will precede the 11 p.m. service, beginning at 10:30.

St. Andrew's is located at 520 E. Seminary St., Greencastle. All are welcome.

Eminence Christian Church plans Christmas programs

The Eminence Christian Church will host its Christmas program at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 18. The program includes a children's bell choir, the Twelve Days of Christmas as well as the praise team.

The Christmas Eve service is at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 24. This provides an opportunity to share in a brief worship service and to spend time with family. The service features three Christmas hymns, a short meditation and a candlelight communion service. The program ends at 6 p.m.

On Christmas Day, Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m. and church is at 10:30 a.m.

The public is invited to share in all three of these services.

Immanuel Baptist announces Christmas Services

Immanuel Baptist Church, Greencastle will hold the following special Christmas services. The annual Christmas program will be Sunday, Dec. 18, featuring music, a Christmas play and scripture readings.

The Christmas Eve service will be Dec. 24 at 6 p.m. and there will be one service on Christmas day, Dec. 25, at 10 a.m. The public is invited to any of these services.

SAWs to help others by assembling toys

The Greencastle Presbyterian Church SAWs (Servants at Work) team will be helping out Santa this year by offering to assemble toys for the residents of Putnam County.

The SAWs team, whose mission is to build handicapped ramps for the disabled in Putnam County, wants to go further and help out for Christmas by assembling toys.

On Dec. 22 from 4:30-8 p.m., the team will be putting together toys that need some assembly in the fellowship hall of the church at no cost.

Greencastle Presbyterian is located on Round Barn Road north of Indianapolis Road (653 S. CR 100E). Bring your toys and join us for a cup of coffee or a soft drink while the team prepares your gifts of toys for Christmas Day.

Brick Chapel to hold Christmas evening service

Brick Chapel United Methodist Church will hold its annual Christmas evening service on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 6 p.m. It will consist of a children's program, special music, poems, readings and singing.

The public is cordially invited to come out and enjoy an evening of fellowship and share the joy of the season. Light refreshments will be served following the program in the fellowship hall. Brick Chapel is located 4.5 miles north of Greencastle on State Road 231.

Beech Grove UMC announces holiday services

Beech Grove United Methodist Church will be hosting three upcoming events during the holiday season.

The church will hold a candlelight Christmas Eve service at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24.

Christmas Day worship service will be at 11 a.m. with no fellowship dinner following.

On Saturday, Dec. 31, the church will host its annual oyster and chili supper at 5 p.m. Soup will be furnished, so families should bring a side dish and table service.

The public is invited to all three events.
