Walking Wednesdays to offer winter edition at DePauw

Tuesday, December 27, 2011

The Putnam County Health Coalition is partnering with DePauw University to offer a safe, clean, warm place to walk this winter with friends or by yourself.

Walking Wednesdays' Winter Edition will meet each Wednesday between 8 and 10 a.m. to walk indoors at the DePauw Tennis and Track Center.

The free program will begin Jan. 4 and continue each Wednesday through Feb. 22. Walkers can participate with a non-timed 5K or one-mile walk.

The Health Coalition will have a representative on hand each Wednesday morning to log participants in and out and explain use of the facility if necessary.

The program is open to residents of all ages -- (strollers should not be used on the track). However, participants under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Although not timed, participants may check in and receive recognition for participating in at least seven walks. If inclement weather exists, that day's walk could be canceled.

Entry and exit will be via the north doors by using Hill Street to the north parking lot (parking area facing the soccer fields).

Registration forms will be available at several locations around town, including Greencastle City Hall, Bright Futures, Putnam County Public Library, Putnam County Museum, Greencastle Pediatric Dentistry, and on line at www.cityofgreencastle.com (click on the Parks and Rec tab and then scroll to the bottom of the screen).

Forms should be returned to: Greencastle City Hall, 1 N. Locust St., Greencastle, IN 46135.
