Commissioners approve 2011 EDIT plan

Thursday, December 29, 2011

With 2011 nearly over, the Putnam County Commissioners approved the year's Economic Development Income Tax (EDIT) plan at a recent meeting.

The commissioners approved the plan unanimously at their Monday, Dec. 19 meeting, essentially making it official how the $881,833 was spent for the year.

The 2011 EDIT money was divided between five different funds.

* $460,700 toward the bond on the Putnam County Jail

* $380,000 toward county roads

* $30,000 for economic development

* $9,000 for West Central Economic Development

* $2,133 to the war chest

The county received about $100,000 less in EDIT funds in 2011 than in 2010.

Other end-of-year business at the meeting included the annual appointment of employees.

Commissioner appointments for 2012 are largely unchanged and include county planner Sandy Amers, maintenance supervisor Tom Gibson, courthouse head custodian Jack Myers, courthouse custodian Brian Smith, part-time courthouse custodians Ken Hutcheson and Dave Denny, 911 director Dave Costin, veteran's officer Jerry Williamson, microfilm director Kathy VanArsdale, highway supervisors Jim Smith and Clint Maddox, highway administrative assistant Radene Varvel, highway secretary Brenda Turner and county attorney Scott Hoff.

On the advice of Putnam County Highway Department officials, the commissioners voted to accept all annual bids as submitted at the Dec. 5 meeting.

The county also accepted H.E. Henderson's bid of $63,100 for culvert work at Heritage Lake. Henderson's bid was the lowest of four submissions, and county officials spoke highly of the quality and reliability of the contractor's work.
