Two Putnam County men were arrested Saturday following an altercation in the middle of South Indiana Street.

Officers Nick Eastham and Eric Vaughan responded to a reported fight a block south of the square at 1:44 a.m. Arrested were Cade R. Gibson, 24, Bainbridge, and Dennis Campbell, 42, Greencastle.

Gibson faces a charge of battery, while Campbell is facing charges of battery and public intoxication.

Also arrested Saturday and lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a theft charge was Ciara Borem, 19, Cloverdale.

Borem reportedly took $81.15 worth of cosmetics at Walmart, including eyeliner, eye shadow, face powder, nail polish and make-up brushes.

According to Officer Jeff Modlin's report, the suspect reportedly removed the items from their packaging, stuffed them in her purse and tried to leave the store without paying for them.

Three recent property-damage accidents were investigated by city officers.

-- At 5:12 p.m. Monday, a two-vehicle accident occurred at Hanna and Bloomington streets.

Eric Newman, 49, Lafayette, was eastbound on Hanna Street and stopped at Bloomington in his 2010 Toyota Tacoma when he decided to back up to enter the Pizza King lot.

In doing so, Newman backed his pickup into a 2005 Chrysler Sebring driven by Jennifer Von Tress, 26, Greencastle. She had pulled up behind Newman at the stopsign.

She told police she saw the truck begin to back up but did not have time to react other than by honking her horn before the collision occurred.

-- At 8:34 a.m. Monday, icy pavement at Washington and Bloomington streets resulted in a three-vehicle mishap.

Andrea Mundy, 19, Greencastle, was westbound on Washington Street, attempting to turn left in a 1994 Toyota Celica when she encountered a northbound blue pickup truck spinning its wheels in the intersection. Mundy tried to turn behind that vehicle but collided with another northbound pickup, a 1984 Ford driven by Arthur Lowe, 62, Greencastle.

The Lowe vehicle was sliding through the intersection on the ice as Mundy tried to go between the trucks, and a collision pushed her car into the blue pickup.

Despite being struck, the driver of the blue pickup left the scene of the accident, Officer Albert Epple reported.

Total damage in the accident was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

-- At 8:27 p.m. Dec. 30, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on the Walmart store parking lot.
