A Conversation with the Author: Mike Mullin

Friday, January 13, 2012

The Putnam County Public Library will be hosting "A Conversation with the Author," featuring Mike Mullin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Mullin will discuss writing, geology and his novel "Ashfall" as well as give a Taekwondo demonstration.

It was when Mullin was in the sixth grade that he discovered he could make money with his writing. Mullin's first sale as a writer earned 10 cents for one word: Tenacious.

Mullin wrote his first novel in elementary school and has been writing more ever since, "Ashfall" is his first published novel. Kirkus Reviews not only gave "Ashfall" a starred review, which is assigned to books of remarkable merit, it also included the novel on its list of "Best Teen Books of 2011."

Like his protagonist in "Ashfall", Mullin shares the love and practice of tae kwon do. He holds a black belt in Songahm Taekwondo, which he will demonstrate during the evening.

A book signing will follow after the discussion and demonstration. Copies of "Ashfall" will be available to purchase in advance and the evening of the program for $16.95, with 20 percent of all proceeds to benefit the library. Anyone interested in advance purchase of "Ashfall" may contact Margot Payne at 653-2755, ext. 118 or margot@putnam.lib.in.us.
