GHS future broadcasters 'take over' WGRE
The Greencastle High School Future Broadcaster's Initiative (FBI) is "taking over" DePauw University's radio station, 91.5 WGRE. The two organizations are teaming up to broadcast a weekly talk show, "Tiger Cub Takeover," which will cover exclusive news, sports and events from the high school.
"For those who watch our weekly internet show on bannergraphic.com, 'Tiger Talk News and Sports,' it's essentially the same thing only we go more in depth and provide interviews, analysis, and fun trivia facts," said FBI creator and president Olivia Humphreys. "FBI is really excited and grateful to WGRE for giving us this opportunity to reach out to the community while expanding our knowledge on broadcasting."
Humphreys, a GHS senior, created FBI at the start of the 2011-12 school year to provide up-to-date information for the Greencastle community while teaching its members about broadcast journalism.
"The experience that the FBI members will gain from this alliance will be invaluable," Humphreys said. "Several students are interested in pursuing a career in broadcast, myself included, so the ability to work with WGRE and gain that knowledge needed to produce and air radio shows will only be beneficial and give them a competitive edge later in their lives."
"Tiger Cub Takeover" airs live on Sundays from 5-6 p.m. and is hosted by seniors Nathan Eubank, Nate Secrest and Humphreys, along with other sports analysts from the high school. The broadcast can be heard on 91.5 FM or www.wgre.org, where listeners can also find past "Tiger Cub Takeovers."
