Tiger Cubs rout Mounties

CRAWFORDSVILLE -- The GMS eighth grade boys' basketball team traveled north to take on the Mounties from Southmont this past week and came away with a pair of victories.

In the first contest, Greencastle jumped out to a big lead and then coasted to an easy 43-28 win. Balanced scoring in the first half resulted in all five starters scoring four points or more and enabled the visitors to take a 24--10 lead into the locker room.

The second half saw more of the same as the Tiger Cubs held off the home team from ever closing the gap and securing the 15-point margin of victory.

Greencastle was led in scoring by Brandon Gierke's 16 points, followed by Cole Edgar and Jacob Lewis with nine each. Gierke also pulled down five rebounds, while Ryan Coble dished out four assists and had five steals.

The win runs the A team record to 12-1 on the season.

In the second contest, the visitors dominated all aspects of the game building a huge lead early and taking a 21--2 lead in to the half-time. Dylan Owens and Jacob Sanders had six of their game-high eight points in the decisive first half.

The scoring onslaught slowed in the third quarter as the Cubs were outscored 10-3, but GMS got things going again in the fourth and coasted to the win, 32-14.

Along with Owens and Sanders eight points each, Anthony Rossok added six points and Peyton Walker and Jacob Kessler had four also.

In the rebounding category, Owens and Sanders pulled down six and five respectively, followed by Walker, Kessler and Brayden White with four each.

Tyler Lamb was the big distributor with four assists, while White, Kessler and Rossok had three steals each.

The B team is now 4-1 on the season.
