MONROVIA -- The South Putnam girls' basketball team won a close battle with Monrovia Friday 43-41 to move to 11-6 on the season.

The Eagles found themselves behind 17-13 at the half and by two, 25-23, after three quarters. They were able to turn things around in the fourth quarter to come away with the victory.

"It was a very low scoring game," South Putnam head coach Lindsey Blackman said. "(It was) very physical throughout and kind of tough for both teams to get anything going offensively. In the end, we were able to capitalize on free throws. Leanna Masters went 6-for-6 in the fourth quarter, which helped us there seal the victory."

On the night, Jenny Thompson led the way with 13 points, followed by Masters with 12 and Emily Dabkowski with eight. Mattie Varvel added four points and Ericka Minor scored three. Blackman said the Bulldogs did a good job of taking Masters away down low and made them utilize their perimeter players.

South Putnam will host Tri-West Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
