New polling places secured for two Greencastle Twp. precincts

Two Greencastle Township precincts whose polling places had been at the Putnam County Annex have found new homes.

When the Putnam County Commissioners voted to close the Annex last year, they set the date for mid-November in part so it did not affect last year's municipal elections.

But for the 2012 primary and general election, First Ward North and Limedale both need new polling places.

First North voters will now go to the Putnam County Museum, 1105 N. Jackson St., for the May 8 primary and Nov. 6 general election.

Limedale precinct will vote at the Putnam County Fairgrounds Community Building, which is also the Greencastle North polling place.

"It's been in the paper that the annex is closed, but it's not registering with people. It won't register until they go to vote," County Clerk Marty Watts said.

The only other precinct that remains in question is Greencastle Fourth Ward East. The room previously used at Ridpath Primary School is now in use for other reasons.

Watts said she is working on this arrangement with school officials.

The clerk also reported she is requesting a $10,000 grant to offset the county's expenses for the 2012 election. The county received $5,000 in 2010, so Watts increased the amount requested this year.
