County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* On Thursday, Jan. 26 at 12 p.m. Monty Ray Rader, 45, Greencastle, was arrested for child solicitation.

At 3:30 p.m. Shane Allen Willey, 21, Cloverdale, was held at the jail for probation violation and possession of a Schedule IV drug.

At 6:12 p.m. Christopher Lee Allen, 48, Bristol, was booked in for nonsupport of a dependent.

At 7 p.m. Lacey Terry, 22, Greenfield, was housed at the jail for failure to appear.

* On Friday, Jan. 27 at 3:53 a.m. Alison Lee Stephens, 19, Greencastle, was held at the jail for public intoxication, minor in consumption, resisting law enforcement and criminal mischief.

City Police

Greencastle City Police investigated a recent shoplifting incident at the Wal-Mart store on Indianapolis Road.

Two Greencastle juvenile males, ages 14 and 16, were apprehended at 8:15 p.m. Jan. 20 for allegedly taking approximately $15 worth of merchandise.

Capt. Charles Inman reported that the boys took cough syrup and Dramamine by putting the merchandise in their pockets. They also opened a package of Rice Krispie treats and reportedly ate a number of them as they wandered through the store.

Capt. Inman made two additional recent arrests.

-- At 2:45 a.m. Friday, he arrested Allen R. Wells, 53, Greencastle, on North Jackson Street for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Wells, who was lodged in the Putnam County Jail after registering a blood-alcohol content of .16 percent, was stopped originally for driving without using his headlights.

-- At 2:15 a.m. Thursday, Jason Joe Miller, 29, Carbon, was arrested at a private local residence following a reported altercation at the Eagles Lodge. Charged with battery resulting in bodily injury, Miller was lodged in the jail.

Meanwhile, a companion, Samantha McGaughy, 19, Carbon, was cited at the same time for being a minor in consumption of alcohol.

The alleged victim in the incident, a 37-year-old Greencastle man was treated and released at Putnam County Hospital.

Two recent traffic accidents were investigated Thursday by Officer Albert Epple.

-- At 10:23 a.m. a one-vehicle mishap occurred on the north side of the Burger King parking lot at 66 Putnam Plaza.

Driving a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox, Carlene Jones, 62, Fillmore, was leaving the restaurant when her vehicle struck a light pole.

Total damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

-- At 7:58 a.m. Thursday, a hit-and-run accident was reported at U.S. 231 and Veterans Highway.

Brittany Adamson, 22, Greencastle, was eastbound on Veterans Highway, entering the intersection at 231 on the green light when her 2006 Pontiac Vibe was struck by a turning westbound blue pickup truck that continued southbound on U.S. 231.

Damage to the Adamson vehicle was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to a number of recent dispatches.

* On Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 4:22 p.m. GFD personnel responded to a call of smoke in the building at Roban Apartments, 327 Bloomington St. Investigation revealed that maintenance had replaced a filter and the smoke was coming from a furnace, but there was no fire. Cleared 4:40 p.m.

At 5:09 p.m. crews performed a medical assist at Jefferson and Franklin streets. Cleared 5:24 p.m.

At 8:44 p.m. GFD was dispatched to an alarm at 109 W. Hanna St. No problem was found. Cleared 8:52 p.m.

* On Thursday, Jan. 26 at 9:51 a.m. personnel responded to a car accident at West Walnut Street and County Road 300 West. Cleared 10:27 a.m.

At 6:06 p.m. GFD investigated a natural gas odor at 911 Indianapolis Rd. No problem was found. Cleared 6:37 p.m.

* On Friday, Jan. 27 at 12:42 a.m. crews responded to an alarm at the ATO house, 504 E. Seminary St. The problem was caused by a smoke machine. Cleared 12:58 a.m.
