MONROVIA -- On Thursday, the GMS eighth grade boys' basketball team traveled to Monrovia and made it a perfect 5-0 in conference play with a 50-36 victory over the Bulldogs.

The Tiger Cubs jumped out to an early lead with red hot shooting from the field, leading after one quarter 17-7.

Greencastle missed only one shot in the opening frame, led by Cole Edgar's 5-for-5 shooting and 11 of his game-high 12 points.

The Tiger Cubs extended their advantage in the second quarter as Brandon Gierke and Jacob Sanders chipped in four points each and took a 30-14 halftime lead into the locker room.

In the third quarter, the home team began finding the range and closed the gap to 11 points, 39-28. That was as close as the Bulldogs would get, however, as GMS held off Monrovia to claim the conference title.

Monrovia used long range shooting to combat Greencastle's height advantage, hitting seven three pointers, five two point field goals and four free throws for the game. That wasn't enough however as GMS was led in scoring by Edgar's and Ryan Coble's 12 points each, followed by Gierke's 11 and Zach Wilkerson's six.

Gierke also had five rebounds followed by Edgar and Wilkerson with three each. Coble had four steals on the evening and dished out five assists. Edgar also blocked four shots.

The win pushes the Tiger Cubs' record to 13-2 on the season.

GMS is in action again today as they host South Putnam in the opening round of the County Classic.

GMS scoring -- Edgar 12, Coble 12, Gierke 11, Wilkerson 6, Lewis 4, Sanders 4, White 1.
