Coatesville man formally charged with 13 counts in molestation case

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

A Coatesville man arrested last week appeared in Putnam Circuit Court, formally charged with 13 sex crimes involving a minor.

The charges against David L. Williams, 37, include 12 molestation charges -- nine Class A felonies and three Class C felonies -- and one charge of incest, a Class B felony.

An Indiana State Police investigation led authorities to believe that on multiple occasions over the last three years, Williams has engaged in various sex acts with an eight-year-old female family member at his rural Coatesville home.

Williams was arrested at his home last Thursday, and ISP investigators served a search warrant and seized several pieces of evidence from the residence.

In court, Williams entered a not guilty plea and told the court he planned to hire counsel. He has since hired Greencastle attorney Darrell Felling.

In contrast to the not guilty plea, Williams admitted the crimes to state police investigators, according to the probable cause affidavit filed by the Putnam County Prosecutor's Office.

He denied have inappropriately touched any other family members or any other minors.

Judge Matt Headley set Williams' bond at $100,000 cash or $750,000 surety. He further ordered Williams to have no contact with the alleged victim or with any other person younger than 18.

A pre-trial conference in the case has been set for Monday, March 12 at 10 a.m.
