John R. Amers

John R. Amers, 70, Marietta, Ga., formerly of Greencastle, passed away on Monday Feb. 13, 2012 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.

He was born Dec. 14, 1941, in Terre Haute, the son of George and Etta Head Amers.

He married Diana Zalokar on Aug. 11, 1984 in Danville.

He graduated from Reelsville High School in 1960 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served three years and spent most of his time in France. He had worked for more than 30 years for IBM.

Surviving are his wife Diane Amers; daughter Joetta Bookert and husband Keith; stepsons Scott and Steve Zalokar; mother Etta Hinote of Reelsville; sister Beverly Deweese and husband Gene of Milwaukee; brothers Charles of Seymour, Bill and wife Betty of Vincennes and Richard of Reelsville; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two nephews; and several cousins.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 4495 Sandy Plains Rd., Marietta, GA 30066. Private family services will be held at a later date.
