Putnam County Public Library is keeping up with the times

Friday, February 24, 2012

It's that time of year for the Putnam County Public Library Board to update its library policies.

The Policy Committee recently held a meeting to go through policies, which they felt needed, updating or removal. The committee then forwarded the policies to the board for approval.

The committee revised the investment policy, added a work from home, fine reduction policy and distributing material policy. They also revised the meeting room policy, which now no longer prohibits religious services and political campaigning.

The library director, Alice Greenburg, updated the board on the status of the newly launched e-books.

"People are checking out the e-books," said Greenburg. "There hasn't been any huge problems."

The e-book software is available on the library's website. Users have to download two types of software before beginning the checkout process.

The board was also updated on the status of the Planning Committee which is currently coming up with a strategic plan to involve more community members in a community-wide assessment.

The committee is trying to recruit members who would serve on the eight to 10-person committee to help launch the assessment.

The monthly report showed a slight decline of registered borrowers, down three percent in from January 2011 to January 2012. Circulation in periodicals saw a 23 percent decrease however there was a one percent total growth from last year.
