McCloud Nature Park to host Maple Syrup Days

Monday, February 27, 2012

The McCloud Nature Park will be hosting its second annual Maple Syrup Days, which will be expanded over two weekends.

Maple Syrup Days will provide park visitors with demonstrations, hands-on tree-tapping practice and pointers on tree identification.

Guests can visit the "Sugar Shack" and watch as the modern-day evaporator, on permanent loan to the park from Harris Sugar Bush Farms in Greencastle, condenses gallons of sugary sap into sweet, rich thick maple syrup for visitors to sample.

Demonstration tours will depart from the Nature Center every half-hour on March 3-4 and March 10-11. Tour demonstrations will be ongoing from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and from 1-4 p.m. on Sundays.

The Parks Foundation of Hendricks County has also expanded its pancake breakfast fundraiser to two days this year, Saturday and Sunday, March 3-4. Guests can enjoy all-you-can-eat pancakes topped with fresh maple syrup.

Seating times begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 3 and continue hourly until 3 p.m. Sunday's seating begins at 10 a.m. and continues hourly until 3 p.m.

Reservations are required for the free-will donation fundraiser and can be made by calling the park's main office at 317-718-6188.
