SP kindergarten orientation set April 3-4

Monday, March 12, 2012

Kindergarten orientation for the 2012-13 school year will be conducted April 3-4 in the two South Putnam Community School Corporation elementaries.

Students and parents should attend the orientation session of the school the pupil will be attending in the fall.

Students and parents should plan to be present during the entire 2-1/2-hour session at their respective school because a variety of information and activities are scheduled.

Dates and times for each school are as follows:

Fillmore Elementary -- Tuesday, April 3 at 9 a.m. Phone 246-6136 for more information.

Central Elementary -- Wednesday, April 4 at 9 a.m. (for last names beginning A-M) and 12:30 p.m. (for last names beginning N-Z). Phone 653-6175 or 795-3417 for more information.

Reelsville area students should attend the orientation at Central Elementary.

To be eligible for kindergarten next year, a child must be five years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2012. To be eligible for first grade, a child must be six years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2012, except for those who previously attended a year of kindergarten in another school corporation.

During the orientation session, a pre-school screening check will be administered to each child. All children must be screened before being admitted to kindergarten for the first time. Those children who are not screened during orientation will be screened the first week of enrolling in kindergarten this fall.

Parents must present the child's official birth certificate and immunization record as required by law. An official birth certificate may be obtained from the Board of Health in the county in which the child was born. It is also requested that the child's Social Security number be on file with the school. Records will be copied and returned to parents.

Each school is taking a survey to determine the number of students who will be participating in orientation. Parents are asked to notify the school if they have a child entering school next year or know of a child who will be entering school next year.
