Upcoming St. Patrick's Day, Spanish programs sponsored by Park Dept.

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

The Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department has announced two programs to be held later this week and beginning next week.

The first will be St. Patrick's Day at the Putnam County Museum, 1105 N. Jackson St., Greencastle, from 1-3 p.m. Thursday, March 15.

Cost of the event is $5 per child.

The event is open to all, with crafts and activities designed for preschoolers, kindergarteners and their caregivers.

They can enjoy crafts, games, snacks and stories about Saint Patrick's Day. Why a four-leaf clover? What is a Blarney Stone? Who is St Patrick? Why is green the color of the day? Where is that pot of gold?

The second program is Spanish for Families, conducted in cooperation with DePauw University. Designed for families to learn basic Spanish together, students and staff from DePauw will work with participants in a group setting instructing the basics of the Spanish language and culture.

Six class sessions will be held. The last session will include a sampling of Latin American food and snacks.

Pre-registration is required at 653-3395 or via email at tscott@city-ofgreencastle.com. Cost is $15 per family.

Classes are scheduled for 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, March 15 and 22 (no class March 29) and April 5, 12, 19, 26 at Ridpath Primary School.

This program is open to all families.
