Sheriff's Department

* On March 13 at 12:48 a.m. Nathan L. Sparks, 22, Rockville, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2005 Ford Econoline ambulance registered to Putnam County Operation Life.

He hit a deer that ran into the road, causing the ambulance to spin 180 degrees and come to rest facing north in the northbound lane.

The ambulance was disabled and towed from the scene. Damage $2,501-$5,000.

* At 5:32 a.m. Justin T. Mannon, 20, Spencer, was westbound on U.S. 40 in a 1999 Ford Ranger when he hit a deer.

Due to disabling damage, the truck was towed from the scene. Damage $2,501-$5,000.

* At 7:15 a.m. Tiffany R. Ludwig, 27, Cory, was southbound on Main Street (U.S. 231) in Cloverdale in a 2007 Chrysler Aspen, waiting to turn east onto Robert Weist Avenue.

Travis A. Jackson, 19, Greencastle, was southbound on Main Street in a 1986 GMC pickup truck and did not see Ludwig's vehicle stopped in traffic, striking it in the rear end.

Ludwig had her two children, ages 2 and 1, in the vehicle. Although had visible signs of injury, she was going to take them to the hospital for examination.

Jackson's vehicle was towed for disabling damage, but Ludwig was able to drive away from the scene. Damage $5,001-$10,000.

County Jail

A number of people have been booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* On Tuesday, March 13 at 6:35 p.m. Tyler Kuras, 21, Greencastle, was arrested for domestic battery, intimidation, disorderly conduct and violation of home detention.

* On Wednesday, March 14 at 2:40 a.m. Donald Wayne Stranger, 45, Ladoga, was held at the jail for theft, burglary and public intoxication.

At 11:18 a.m. Zachary Michael Morris, 26, Avon, was booked in for probation violation.

At 3:45 p.m. Melissa Ann Miller, 34, homeless, was housed at the jail for probation violation.

At 10:10 p.m. Hollis James Shepherd, 49, Greencastle, was booked in for battery and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.

At 10:10 p.m. Mark Russell Testerman, 50, Greencastle, was arrested for battery.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

-- At 9:14 p.m. Tuesday, Josh Sutherlin, 27, Fillmore, was arrested by Officer Nick Eastham for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Stopped on Shadowlawn Avenue near Robinwood Place, Sutherlin registered a blood-alcohol content level of .11 percent under PBT (Portable Breathalyzer Testing). He was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

-- At 8:08 p.m. March 8, Adam Whitaker, 29, Cloverdale, was arrested on Bloomington Street, just south of Veterans Highway, on an outstanding Brown County warrant. Whitaker was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Two recent traffic accidents were investigated by GPD officers.

-- At 10:18 a.m. Tuesday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported at the Phillips 66 mini-mart and New York Street.

Terry Maynard, 22, Greencastle, had exited the gas pump area and was turning west onto New York Street when he pulled his 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier into the path of a westbound 2011 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Mark Bray, 52, Greencastle.

The collision resulted in an estimated $1,000-$2,500 damage.

Maynard was ticketed by Officer Darrel Bunten for driving with a suspended license.

-- At 4:18 p.m. Monday, a three-vehicle accident resulted in minor injuries and a large traffic tie-up south of the North Jackson Street underpass at the north end of Greencastle.

Madison Rogers, 16, Bainbridge, was northbound on Jackson Street, driving a 1996 Eagle Talon, when she realized too late that traffic had stopped in front of her, Officer Ed Wilson reported.

Rogers' car struck the rear of a 2005 Saturn, driven by Paula Taylor, 22, Greencastle, which was pushed into the rear of a 2008 Buick Lucerne driven by Ronald Sample, 67, Gosport. Sample had stopped to turn left onto Depot Street.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

Taylor was transported to Putnam County Hospital via Operation Life ambulance with an unspecified injury. Sample complained of neck pain but did not seek treatment.

Four additional traffic citations were issued by city officers.

-- At 7:50 p.m. Wednesday, Lisa Nauman, 31, Greencastle, was ticketed by Capt. Charles Inman for having an expired license plate (August 2011).

-- At 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jordan Anvoots, 18, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Matt Huffman for having an expired license plate (February 2011).

-- At 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, Zachary Benassi, 18, Fillmore, was cited by Officer Huffman at Shadowlawn Avenue and Robinwood Place for being an operator never licensed.

-- At 8:14 p.m. Monday, Officer Bunten cited James Jones, 20, Bloomington, for disregarding a stopsign at Indiana and Liberty streets.
