Record event for Ag Day requires many thanks

Friday, March 16, 2012

To the Editor:

On Saturday, March 10, 2012, a record attendance of Putnam County residents attended Putnam County Ag Day to celebrate "American Agriculture: Feeding the Future, Filling the Gaps."

The day kicked off with an Ag Day Breakfast followed by a short program by Purdue Professor Larry Deboer. Awards for Farm Family of the Year, Friend of the Farmer, Ag Day Photo Contest and a Putnam County Fairgrounds Endowment presentation were given.

Immediately following the program was the Mini Farm Fest where families participated in hands-on activities, including the chance to interact with farm animals, sample milk and popcorn, corn shelling and much more.

The success of Ag Day could not have been achieved without help from our many sponsors and exhibitors: Putnam County Farm Bureau, Almost Home, Arby's, Burger King, Kroger, Putnam Inn, Farm Credit Services, First Financial Bank, First National Bank, Hoosier Heartland State Bank, North Salem State Bank, Old National Bank, PNC Bank, Tri County Bank, Putnam County Ag Breakfast Group, McDonald's, Putnam County Community Foundation, Milk Promotions Services of Indiana Inc., Master Gardeners, North Putnam FFA, South Putnam FFA, Cloverdale FFA, Indiana Soybean Alliance, 4-H Junior Leaders, Cabot Cheese, Putnam County Public Library, Jason Keeney, Purdue Extension, Wright Implement, Bob Wehrman, Indiana State Police, Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District, Humphrey's Outdoor Power Equipment, Larry Deboer, Purdue Club of Putnam County, Jeff and Parker Coffman, Tom Holton and Red Barn Farms, Keegan Poe and "Chuck" the Steer, David Greenberg, Ivy Tech, Shoffner Farm Supply, Oliver Farms, Mike Mann Farms, Angela Mann and Rolling Meadows Plant Farm, Kim Lawrenz, Tammy Amor and the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce, Phyllis Legan and Indiana Pork, Beth and Nick Tharp, Virgil Arnold, Steve and Patti Cash, Ken Carrington, Mark Evans, Putnam County Agriculture and Natural Resources-Ann Delchambre and Putnam County Fairgrounds Endowment Committee.
