Tests offered for certified lifeguards to work at state parks

Saturday, March 17, 2012

Lifeguarding tests for already-certified lifeguards who want to work at Indiana Department of Natural Resources State Parks and Reservoirs properties will be conducted at no cost to participants at three locations statewide in April.

Applicants must already be certified in lifeguarding and CPR for the Professional Rescuer to be eligible to attend the test at any site; the tests are not a recertification of any type.

Testing will include blood borne pathogens, a written test and a water test.

If you have already worked as a DNR lifeguard, you do not need to take the test for 2012.

The Indiana State Parks and Reservoirs lifeguarding tests will be on:

-- April 15 at the Harrison County YMCA in Corydon.

-- April 22 at Owen County YMCA in Spencer.

-- April 29 at Ball State University's Lewellen Aquatic Center in Muncie.

Registration at all sites starts at 8:30 a.m. The test will start at 9 a.m. at all sites and should conclude by 2 p.m.

The week after the tests, each applicant's scores will be sent to the property he or she requests.
